Gideon stepped out of the bathroom, dragging a towel down his face, still groggy and only half awake. The apartment was quiet, save for the fridge hum and distant city noise. A familiar emotional buzz prickled at the edge of his senses—Jason had snuck in again. Typical. Still, Gideon didn’t look his way. Not before coffee. He moved through the kitchen on autopilot: grab the mug, pour, sip. He left the towel on the counter. It wasn’t until his third sip that he turned toward the living room—and promptly choked. Jason Fox sat cross-legged on a dining chair dragged to the center of the apartment, perfectly relaxed in front of the mirror. He wore a dark blue velvet bunny suit—plunging neckline, crooked bunny ears, and fishnet tights hugging his legs. A picture of confidence and absurdity. He was applying shimmering blue eyeliner. With a switchblade. Gideon’s coffee hit the floor with a splatter. His mouth hung open in stunned disgust. Jason didn’t look up. “Morning,” he said casually, inspecting his eyeliner. “Before you say anything offensive—this fabric? Unreal. Wanna touch it?” He smoothed a hand down his chest with pride. Gideon continued staring, mute. Jason sighed. “No fabric appreciation? Lame. I feel confident and confused. Might commit a murder in this. You think anyone’s been assassinated by a man in bunny ears?” Still nothing. Jason gestured lazily toward the spilled coffee. “That’s on you. I was gonna warn you, but shock’s faster than caffeine. You’re welcome.” “…Why,” Gideon finally croaked. “Lost a bet with a drag queen, and I’m not a coward.” “You don’t have friends,” Gideon muttered. Jason shrugged. “Made one. She’s got a sword collection and calls me ‘bitchboy’ affectionately. You’d like her.” After a beat, Jason added cheerfully, “She offered to lend me thigh-highs next time. I think I’m a thigh-high kind of guy.” Gideon rubbed his temple. “I want to un-remember everything.” Jason grinned. “Too late. Burned into your psyche forever.”
